NBA rumors: Pistons a potential Tyler Herro destination in Giannis Antetokounmpo trade

As speculation continues to surround the future of Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, a new report suggests the Detroit Pistons could play a significant role in a potential blockbuster trade involving the Miami Heat.

According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, Detroit has emerged as a possible third-team facilitator in a scenario that would send Antetokounmpo to Miami while delivering Heat guard Tyler Herro to the Pistons.

“The Detroit Pistons are emerging as a potential third team to help facilitate a trade involving Giannis Antetokounmpo moving to the Miami Heat,” Stein reported.

“The Pistons would ultimately receive Tyler Herro in return.”

The reported framework represents the latest development in what has become one of the NBA’s biggest offseason storylines. Antetokounmpo remains under contract with Milwaukee, but trade speculation has intensified following the Bucks’ disappointing season and subsequent organizational changes, including the hiring of Taylor Jenkins as head coach.

Miami has consistently been viewed as one of the leading contenders should Antetokounmpo become available. Multiple reports have indicated the Heat remain aggressive in their pursuit of another superstar and have maintained interest in Antetokounmpo for months.

Detroit’s involvement would likely stem from the organization’s desire to add perimeter shooting and offensive firepower around its young core.

According to Stein, the Pistons have explored several options on the trade market as they look to upgrade their roster.

“The Pistons are looking to add shooting this offseason and have been rumored in deals for Kyrie Irving and Trey Murphy III,” Stein reported.

Stein also noted that Detroit has been connected to Zach LaVine, Coby White and Isaiah Joe as the franchise evaluates potential additions ahead of next season.

Herro would address several of those needs. The veteran guard averaged 20.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 33 games last season while continuing to establish himself as one of the league’s most productive perimeter scorers. He remains under contract through the 2026-27 season.

The Pistons enter the offseason following a breakthrough regular season. Detroit finished 60-22 and secured the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, posting its highest win total since the 2005-06 campaign.

However, the postseason exposed areas for improvement. The Pistons were pushed to the brink by the No. 8 seed Orlando Magic in the first round before overcoming a 3-1 deficit. Detroit’s season ultimately ended in the Eastern Conference semifinals with a seven-game loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Whether a multi-team deal involving Antetokounmpo ultimately materializes remains uncertain. Still, Stein’s report indicates the Pistons could emerge as a key participant if the Bucks and Heat intensify trade discussions in the coming weeks.
