Nationals slugger James Wood’s mother drops major flex after inside-the-park grand slam

The Washington Nationals are tied for second in the NL East after taking two of three games from the New York Mets. On Tuesday, in the 9-6 victory over the Mets, Nationals outfielder James Wood hit an inside-the-park grand slam, showing off his speed and power.

Now, his mom, Paula Wood, is explaining exactly why he was able to combine speed and power, and who to thank for his skill.

“Studies say that Mitochondrial DNA, which is inherited from your mother, determines how efficiently the body transforms energy into speed, power and stamina,” Wood posted on X, formerly Twitter.

If speed, stamina, and power all come from the mother’s DNA, Nationals fans need to thank James’ mom. He has been great this year, hitting .254 with a .523 slugging percentage and a .916 OPS. He has 13 home runs, 34 RBIs, and 43 runs scored. Wood has also stolen seven bases this year.

Nationals fans also have some other mothers to thank for their child’s speed and power. CJ. Abrams has 13 home runs with 34 RBIS and seven stolen bases. Meanwhile, Nasim Nunez may not have the power down, but he has stolen 21 bases this year.

The Nationals have been one of the best offensive units in the majors. They lead the majors in runs scored, while sitting fourth in slugging percentage. They are also ninth in on-base percentage and batting average. The issue for the team has been pitching. They are 29th in team ERA while sitting 24th in opponent WHIP.

The Nationals are 25-25 on the season, which ties them with the Philadelphia Phillies for second in the NL East. They finish their four-game series with the Mets on Thursday afternoon.
