MLB rumors: Ken Rosenthal drops brutally honest take on potential early trades this season
With the Major League Baseball trade deadline just a few months away, teams are reportedly already taking a look at players that might help them. MLB insider Ken Rosenthal is dropping a bold take on what will be happening in the days ahead.
Rosenthal just doesn’t think teams will be moving players in the immediate future.
“It’s just not the appropriate time just yet,” Rosenthal said, per Foul Territory.
Given how close the American League is, could we see an early jump on trades this year?

Rosenthal said that even though it is early, that isn’t stopping teams from taking a look at what is out there. The insider said the Pittsburgh Pirates for instance want bullpen help, while the Boston Red Sox want a right-handed bat.
“You will see teams try. We may see a move or two in June. I would not be surprised by that,” Rosenthal added.
Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal has been arguably the hottest trade candidate mentioned so far this season. A number of teams including the Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres want him.
It could be another Tigers pitcher though that ends up traded. That is right-hander Casey Mize.
“Yeah, we get it, Tarik Skubal will be the biggest name in baseball around the Deadline. But if the Tigers indeed end up becoming sellers, Mize is a sneaky name to watch,” MLB.com reported. “The former No. 1 overall pick is off to the best start of his career, even better than his All-Star campaign last year. He entered Sunday ranked seventh in bWAR among AL pitchers at 2.2 despite missing time on the injured list with an adductor strain. His splitter is back to being a nasty out pitch, allowing him to raise his strikeout rate to a career-best 26.5%. And like Skubal, Mize is a free agent at season’s end.”
The MLB trade deadline is August 3.
