Miro Heiskanen says quiet part out loud about Stars’ insane losing streak in Game 1s
The Dallas Stars are quite used to losing the first games of their respective playoffs series. That trend continued on Saturday. Dallas dropped the first game of their series with the Minnesota Wild, by a 6-1 score.
It was yet another disappointing effort from the Stars to open the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
“Losing this Game 1 of the Western Conference quarterfinals in front of their fans at the American Airlines Center marked the ninth time in their past 11 playoff series that they have fallen in the opening contest,” ESPN reported.
Stars players know that history, but refuse to let it define them.
“It’s a long series, it’s a best-of-seven, and it’s one game,” Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen said postgame. “We have to be better than that, but there’s a good chance to win this one still. It’s just one game, but we have to be better. We have to move on and get back to it.”
Still, Dallas looked woeful on Saturday. The Wild got pretty much whatever they wanted offensively, as the team cruised to a lopsided win.
“I think the last goal was bad, but I think I did good things and I think there are things I could have been better at,” Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger said.
It was a tough night for Dallas. The Stars entered the Stanley Cup Playoffs as one of the hottest teams in the NHL. Dallas had won five games in a row to end the regular season, including a win over Minnesota.
That all didn’t really matter as the team got humbled at home Saturday.
“I think all the guys understand urgency,” Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said. “This is a veteran group. They understand urgency.”
The Stars and Wild play Game 2 on Monday.
