Michigan emerges as possible suitor for Alabama transfer forward

Michigan basketball secured Tennessee transfer J.P. Estrella Thursday in a massive early offseason move. Yet the national champs are rising as a potential suitor for a former five-star and Alabama transfer.

College basketball insider for On3/Rivals Joe Tipton revealed the Wolverines as one to watch for Aiden Sherrell. The 6-foot-10 forward entered the College Basketball Transfer Portal Thursday and already has interested schools, per Tipton.

He mentioned the champs as one of the major ones linked to the sophomore.

“A handful of programs are expected to be in the mix for the former McDonald’s All-American. Sources tell On3 that schools like LSU, Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State and Missouri are among the schools to monitor,” Tipton wrote. “However, that list will continue to grow in the coming days.”

But he dropped a profound reason why Michigan and Dusty May could win him over.

“Sherrell is a Detroit native, and there’s some appeal to returning closer to home,” Tipton said.

But the Wolverines aren’t the only Great Lakes State team with a high chance of adding Sherrell.

“The Spartans lose both of their bigs, Jaxon Kohler and Carson Cooper, to graduation, putting Michigan State in a favorable position for Sherrell,” he said.

But Tipton anticipates Aday Mara and Morez Johnson will be entering the NBA Draft. Both played an instrumental role in fortifying the champs’ front court.

The Volunteers star Estrella surfaces as the first impact addition after Michigan’s National Championship Game victory over UConn. Sherrell boosts the repeat chances higher in Ann Arbor if he comes over too.
