Elliot Cadeau decided to return to Michigan basketball for his senior season even after Big Ten Player of the Year Yaxel Lendeborg, Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Aday Mara and Second-Team All-Big Ten selection Morez Johnson Jr. departed for the NBA. The opportunity to be the top guy on the reigning national champions was probably enticing, but the standout point guard also believed in Dusty May. The accomplished head coach’s defection to the Dallas Mavericks left fans wondering if Cadeau would change his mind.

He will not. The NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player plans to stay in Ann Arbor, according to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello. Cadeau’s name is forever etched in Wolverines history, and he wants this bond to last as long as possible. The 6-foot-1 playmaker will continue to lead the Michigan offense under interim HC Mike Boynton Jr., as he does his best to hold the program together during this pivotal transition phase.

Cadeau averaged 10.5 points and 5.9 assists per game while shooting 41.1 percent from the field and 37.6 percent from 3-point range last season. Those rather modest numbers do not fully convey the 21-year-old’s impact, for his court vision and leadership skills proved crucial during the Wolverines’ historic campaign. Everything came together during March Madness, as Elliot Cadeau provided both statistical and intangible value.

The North Carolina transfer posted 7.5 assists in the 2026 NCAA Tournament and dropped 19 points and two steals in a 69-63 title-clinching victory over the UConn Huskies. Cadeau is hoping to capture Final Four ecstasy one more time before concluding his college career.
