Mets’ Juan Soto closing in on bonkers MLB record with 2 homers vs. Phillies

The New York Mets have struggled mightily throughout the 2026 MLB season. However, they did pick up a big win on Thursday night against the Philadelphia Phillies. Once again, Juan Soto was the star of the show for the Amazins as they took down Philly on the road.

Soto swatted two home runs against the Phillies on Thursday night. Additionally, he made a fantastic sliding catch in left field to rob Bryce Harper of extra bases. The Mets won 6-4, improving to 34-41 on the season.

This home run has the New York outfielder closing in on a bit of MLB history. Soto is now tied with Mel Ott and Ralph Kiner for the most multi-homer games before the age of 28, according to baseball reporter Sarah Langs. He is two multi-homer games away from tying the record and three away from breaking the record.

Soto cracked his first homer of the game in the very first inning. His solo shot put the Mets up 1-0, and New York got out of the inning with a two-run lead. His next homer came in the third inning, restoring the two-run lead after Alec Bohm got the Phillies on the board in the bottom of the first.

The Phillies tied the game in the fourth inning, putting pressure on the Mets to come up big in the late stages of the game. New York did just that. Eric Wagaman and Marcus Semien drove home a combined three runs to give their team a lead they would not relinquish.

The Mets and Phillies return to the diamond on Saturday night to play the third game of this four-game series in Philadelphia.
