It has been an up-and-down ride for the Phoenix Mercury to start their 2026 WNBA campaign, but their star forward, Alyssa Thomas, continues to be a beacon of consistency.

The Mercury picked up a 97-88 loss at the hands of the visiting Los Angeles Sparks at the Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix, but it was not because of a lack of effort from the six-time WNBA All-Star.

The 34-year-old Thomas led Phoenix with 23 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the field. She grabbed seven rebounds, dished out seven assists, and recorded three steals in 35 minutes of another statsheet-stuffing performance.

With that showing, the former Maryland Terrapins women’s basketball star moved up on the league’s list for most games with at least 15 points, five rebounds and five assists.

“Alyssa Thomas had her 82nd career game with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. She ties Diana Taurasi for 2nd most in WNBA history behind Candace Parker (86),” ESPN Insights shared via a social media post on X, formerly Twitter.

Considering that the season has just started and that Thomas already has five games with at least those numbers, Parker can pretty much start saying goodbye to her record. Thomas entered the Sparks game with season averages of 16.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 8.4 assists.

Unfortunately for the Mercury, Thomas’ gaudy stats haven’t translated into wins. They are just 2-4 to date and are on a two-game losing skid.

The WNBA’s assist champion in 2025 and the Mercury will look to prevent another loss on Sunday, when they begin a three-game road trip with a matchup against the Atlanta Dream at Gateway Center in Atlanta.
