Mavericks rumors: Anthony Davis trade packages viewed as unrealistic after latest injury

Anthony Davis was initially seen as a significant trade candidate for the Dallas Mavericks, but after another injury, trade talks surrounding Davis have calmed down. Davis suffered a hand injury that came with ligament damage, and he will be out for six weeks. He was going to have surgery, but decided to skip out on surgery and instead will be out for the six weeks. Still, the injury hurts his draft stock.

ClutchPoints’ own NBA insiders, Brett Siegel and Tomer Azarly, were also talking about Anthony Davis’ trade value as we get closer to the NBA Trade Deadline and Siegel made the point that the Mavericks want value back for him and are not going to dump him for nothing, and because of that a deal might not be in reach because other teams won’t want to take a chance on him after being injury prone in Dallas.

“They’re not just going to sell him for nothing,” Brett Siegel said. “They want to try to get some value back, not just a salary dump move. So, probably not going to get that at the trade deadline right now. I don’t see that happening where a team is going to give up multiple draft picks or young talents for a guy like Anthony Davis, who has played what, 15, 20 games since joining the Mavericks?”

Siegel and Azarly went on to discuss what would happen if the Bucks made a trade with the Mavericks for Davis, and how, given the injury and his total injury history, it does not make much sense. The Bucks want to win now, and by making a trade for Davis, he does not automatically help them do that.

This season, Davis is averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game through 20 games played. Those numbers are still good, but the issue is availability. If a team like the Bucks, which needs help right now, tries to make a move for him, he can’t be relied on because of that.

Still, as we get closer to the trade deadline, some teams get desperate, and you might see more teams make a move despite the injury.
