Martin Dubravka joins Premier League club in surprise free transfer

Tottenham have completed a surprise deal to sign veteran goalkeeper Martin Dubravka following his Burnley exit.

The 37-year-old had been a free agent after he was released by the Clarets on June 10, following the club’s Premier League relegation.

The Slovakian was Burnley‘s undisputed number one between the sticks last season during their one-year stint back in the top-flight.

He featured in 35 Premier League outings – keeping four clean sheets and conceding 71 goals.

Though he was on the bench for the final three games of the campaign with Max Weiss preferred instead.

S-Mart choice

The former Manchester United and Newcastle star has now made an instant return to the Premier League, with Roberto De Zerbi‘s side announcing the deal on Wednesday.

Speaking to the club’s website, a delighted Dubravka said: “It’s an exciting time for me, a new journey and new experience for me and my family. I’m looking forward to it.

“Everything moved pretty quickly and I’m really happy to be here. I’ve loved watching Roberto’s teams over the years and know all about his style, vision and the fantastic fans here.

“Tottenham Hotspur is one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League and I can’t wait to meet everyone and get started.

Tottenham have been looking to bulk out their goalkeeper options, with doubts over the long-term future of Guglielmo Vicario.

talkSPORT reported in April how the Italian has agreed personal terms with Inter Milan regarding a potential summer switch.

Antonin Kinsky started Spurs’ last seven games of the 2025/26 season and is in line to retain his No.1 role next term.

The 23-year-old joined the club as a back-up from Slavia Prague in January 2025 in a £12.5million deal.

Two high-profile gaffes against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League in March threatened to derail his career in north London after he was brutally taken off just 17 minutes into the game.

Tottenham’s transfer window so far

Spurs have been one of the busiest clubs so far this summer, with Dubravka becoming their fourth arrival already.

De Zerbi is looking to build a squad capable of challenging for a European spot after he guided his side to Premier League survival on the last day of the term thanks to a 1-0 victory over Leeds.

Andy Robertson was the first player to be announced by the club on a free transfer following his Liverpool release.

Marcos Senesi was the next to be confirmed by Tottenham after the centre-back run his contract down at Bournemouth.

And Spurs then snapped up Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton in a £52million deal.

More signings are expected, with the club recently having an opening offer knocked back by Newcastle for Sandro Tonali.

talkSPORT understands that a bid in the region of £75m-£80m was turned down by the Magpies, who are holding out for in excess £100m.

Spurs are also looking to hijack United’s move to bring in West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

Meanwhile, there could be a number of high-profile players being shown the exit door.

Teenage defender Luka Vuskovic has recently been the subject of a £45m bid from Brighton, with Spurs willing to part ways for £60m.

And midfielder Lucas Bergvall could be sold two years after joining having told Tottenham he wishes to leave – with three Premier League clubs keen to secure his services.
