Mark Cuban reveals why he refused to allow Mavericks fans to sell playoff tickets

There was already a bit of controversy even before the tip-off of Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the New York Knicks and the Cleveland Cavaliers at Rocket Arena on Monday.

Several fans of the Knicks who bought courtside seats, including rapper Fat Joe, had their tickets revoked by the Cavaliers since they were apparently not allowed in the said area. They were eventually moved to a higher section.

The Cavaliers have a strict policy that courtside seats cannot be resold without approval from the squad, as reported by the New York Post’s Christian Arnold. Violating the said rule could lead to a lifetime ban.

Dallas Mavericks advisor Mark Cuban agreed with the business decision of the Cavaliers, commenting on the post of one of the complainants on X.

“I did the same thing. You sell those tickets, you lose ’em. The goal is to have as many of our fans as possible,” wrote Cuban, who used to be the majority owner of the Mavericks.

“During the playoffs, the (San Antonio) Spurs used to refuse to sell tickets to anyone who had a Dallas area code or zip code.”

The fans of the Knicks are known to travel to cheer for their beloved team. That was further proven to be true in the best-of-seven affair versus Cleveland, as they took over Rocket Arena, especially in Game 4, with New York completing the sweep.

Cuban saw it all when he was still running the Mavericks, including winning the title in 2011. He knew how important home-court advantage was in the playoffs.

Meanwhile, Cuban recently confirmed that he was urged to rebuy the Mavericks. While he admitted that he would like to do so, he acknowledged that it is not feasible.
