Maple Leafs part ways with 2 assistant GMs after nightmare season
The Toronto Maple Leafs look set to continue an organizational reset after a disastrous 2025-26 campaign that saw them miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in ten years. The latest move sees two assistant general managers in the form of Brandon Pridham and Derek Clancey parting ways with the organization following John Chayka’s appointment.
The Maple Leafs thanked both executives via an official statement, with Pridham having been with the franchise for 12 years.

“Brandon has played an integral role in the organization over the past 12 seasons. We are sincerely appreciative of Brandon’s professionalism, commitment and dedication to the Maple Leafs throughout his tenure. Derek also brought valuable experience and insight to our hockey operations department during his time with the club. We thank both Brandon and Derek for their contributions to the organization and wish them and their families all the very best moving forward,” Chayka said.
Since arriving, Chayka has already overseen the firing of head coach Craig Berube, the dismissal of general manager Brad Treliving, the departure of longtime executive Shane Doan and now the removal of two assistant general managers. Pridham initially joined Toronto during the 2014-15 season as special assistant to the general manager before eventually becoming assistant GM in 2018-19. During his tenure, he worked under Dave Nonis, Lou Lamoriello, Kyle Dubas and Brad Treliving.
On the other hand, Clancey spent three seasons as assistant GM with Toronto after previously working extensively within the Pittsburgh Penguins scouting department and holding positions with both the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks.
The moves come directly after one of the worst collapses in recent Maple Leafs history as they finished with a 32-26 record, the worst in the Atlantic Division. Just one season earlier, the Leafs had won the Atlantic Division with 108 points under Berube. As things stand, Chayka seems determined to oversee a major reset, with largescale changes also expected with respect to the roster.
