Shams Charania puts Jeanie Buss’ lawyer on blast for ‘inaccurate’ statement on Lakers sale
Recently, the Los Angeles Lakers have been at the center of a firestorm amid reports that the Buss siblings had opted to sell their remaining stake in the franchise to majority owners Bob Iger and Josh Kushner, who bought the team from Mark Walter last week. Since then, Jeanie Buss fired back at Shams Charania’s report through her legal team, disputing that all six siblings voted in favor of the sale.
ESPN has since adjusted the report to reflect that five of the siblings, not all six, voted in favor, with Jeanie Buss being the lone exclusion.
Now, Charania has fired back at Buss and her legal team during an appearance on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show.
“The first line of the statement from the lawyer said… ‘Six Buss siblings voted to sell.’ That key sentence right there is inaccurate, and so I fully stand by my reporting… including stories with the Lakers,” said Charania, per Pat McAfee on X, formerly Twitter.
At this point, there seems to be a dispute among the Buss siblings themselves as to who voted for what, and whether or not Jeanie Buss would indeed be ousted from her role as team Governor in the wake of the reported sale, as Charania initially indicated.
The Buss siblings have dealt with infighting and other turmoil in the decade-plus since their father, the late Jerry Buss, passed away in 2013, and now that the Lakers are in control of Iger and Kusher, the intensity only seems to have increased.
