Trevor Goosby injury: Texas football star’s sky-high NFL Draft stock won’t be hurt by latest update
Fans of Texas Football got a scare on Monday at practice. Trevor Goosby went down with an injury to his knee. At the time, it was unknown what the severity of the injury to the All-American left tackle was.
Now the extent of the injury for Goosby is being disclosed, per Pete Thamel of ESPN.
“Sources: Texas star left tackle Trevor Goosby had an MRI on his left knee this morning, and he’s been diagnosed with a bone bruise. His timetable for return will come together in near future,” Thamel posted on X, formerly Twitter.
A knee bone bruise takes between four and 12 weeks to heal. Goosby was one of the major pieces to the top offensive line in the SEC. He was given first-team All-SEC honors last year after starting all 13 games for the Longhorns. Goosby decided to return to the Longhorns this season and has plenty of buzz heading into his next campaign, as noted by scout Brandon Thorn of Bleacher Report.
“Goosby returned to school after a promising first year as the Longhorns’ starting left tackle,” Thorn said. “As a 20-year-old redshirt freshman in 2025, he now holds the inside track to be the top blocker off the board. At 6’7″ and 325 pounds, Goosby displays rare play-strength with elite length that combine to make him one of the country’s most physically imposing linemen.”
How will Goosby’s NFL Draft stock be impacted?
Goosby is currently projected as the top tackle and a potentially Top Ten pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. He is one of four tackles that currently are looking like first-round picks, along with Jordan Seaton of LSU, Austin Siereveld of Ohio State, and Carter Smith of Indiana. If Goosby can return in the shorter end of the time frame, that could put him in line to face off against Ohio State on September 12.
That game could be huge for the draft stock of Goosby. Kenyatta Jackson is the fifth-ranked edge rusher, and playing against him could help Goosby in the long term. It becomes even more important considering the schedule for Texas. While Texas faces off with Tennessee, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, LSU, and Missouri, all ranked teams, the edge rushers are not as good. Goosby is scheduled to face just two edge rushers ranked among the top 100 potential draft picks.
He will face off against Quincy Rhodes Jr. of Arkansas, but that game is not until November 21. Rhodes is the third-ranked edge rusher currently. Texas then faces Texas A&M to end the season, and he will face off against Anto Saka.
Something else that could help Goosby’s draft stock is a solid season for Texas. The Longhorns have a difficult schedule and open up September 5 against Texas State.
