Man City vs Southampton prediction

Manchester City are chasing a domestic treble and could make a giant step towards another trophy with victory in the FA Cup semi final against Southampton on Saturday.

City beat Arsenal in the Carabao Cup in March and they’re currently top of the Premier League with five matches remaining. It could be another season to remember for Pep Guardiola’s men.

The Citizens have seemingly turned a corner and are on a run of five wins in the last five matches includes two defining wins against Arsenal and a mauling of Liverpool in the quarter-finals.

They look ominous, in spite of the narrow 1-0 win at Burnley on Wednesday night.

Their squad is stacked with the likes of Omar Marmoush, Savinho Tijjani Reijnders and Phil Foden fighting for small-time minutes, which shows the great depth City have at their disposal.

Southampton will go into this game with no fear and are enjoying a remarkable run of form themselves, extending their unbeaten run to 20 games with the 2-2 draw against Bristol City in midweek.

The Saints dispatched Premier League title hopefuls Arsenal in the last eight. And manager Tondo Eckert said this cup run has only had a positive effect on their promotion hopes.

It’s quite clear that the cup has also helped us to perform in the league – I think it’s that way around.”

If you see what it means to the football club, if you see how many supporters are going to be travelling with us to Wembley, I don’t see how this is in the way of anything.”

Key midfielder Finn Azaz was defiant that the Saints are ‘going there to win’. And they have no reason not to feel that they can’t cause yet another ‘cupset’.

But they will have to do without the suspended pair of Flynn Downes and Ryan Manning. Eckert’s squad depth will be tested but has proven it’s worth in 2026 already.

Man City vs Southampton betting tips

Card happy

Centre-back Taylor Harwood-Bellis is Saints’ second-most booked player (10) this season behind Downes (15), who himself is suspended for this huge match.

Not only is he facing his former club, so may be more fired up than usual, but he could well up against an in-form Erling Haaland who has sparked back into life after a quiet mid season.

At least one defender has been shown a card in four of City’s last five matches, with two being booked in three of those games.

Target practice

Haaland has been on a hot streak of late, scoring twice in his last two games against Arsenal and Burnley.

He’s had at least one shot on target in seven of his last eight matches, including two at Turf Moor on Sunday. Up against a Championship, albeit a good one, he may get even more joy on the big stage at Wembley.

Saints have danger man all throughout the team, but Leo Scienza has been a revelation in the Championship since arriving from German club Heidenheim in the summer.

Scienza has seven goals and 10 assists in the second tier and has an average of 1.45 shots on target per game. The fleet-footed forward will be one to watch at the weekend.
