Ryan Garcia has one lethal weapon to beat Conor Benn who could be ‘laying out excuses’

Spencer Oliver believes Ryan Garcia’s powerful left hook will pose a weight-drained Conor Benn serious problems.

Garcia will defend his WBC welterweight title in a Las Vegas blockbuster with British star Benn this weekend.

The pair have a spiky and fierce rivalry, which has led to many captivating pre-fight narratives being build for their huge meeting.

Garcia is looking to continue to build on his success after capturing the green-and-gold belt in a commanding display against Mario Barrios.

His form has stuttered in recent times, but has a fantastic skillset and huge star power that will grow every time he steps in the ring.

‘King Ry’ is the boxing world’s favourite to taste victory against Benn, despite the British star gunning for a KO statement of his own.

Garcia’s secret weapon

And talkSPORT’s Oliver believes Garcia’s punching power, notably in his left hook, will likely be his key weapon to see him over the line and stop the contest.

He explained: “Conor Benn has a problem because the way he is raw and he jumps into the punches.

“Ryan Garcia has the quickest left hook you will ever see and that could be key.

“He can certainly whack as well, he carries real power.

“And if Benn is jumping into them punches, it creates double the power. It could be a big problem for him.”

20 of Garcia’s 25 victories as a professional have come by stoppage, and his speed makes him one of the sharpest operators in the sport.

Benn has regularly suggested he doesn’t fear Garcia anymore, and points out his Gervonta Davis and Rolly Romero defeats as confidence.

Benn’s weight for Garcia fight – is it excuses?

His own thoughts may currently be preoccupied by his quest to boil down to his lowest weight in five years.

Benn is looking lean and has attracted concern, but looks to be well on his way to making the 147lbs limit.

Already though, ‘The Destroyer’ has insisted it will be his last endeavour at welterweight, and could move up as far as 160lbs or 168lbs moving forwards.

Oliver believes it could well be Benn laying out excuses on fight week.

He continued: “In the build-up he’s spoken about now not fighting at 147lbs again.

“He’s even spoken about moving up as far as 160lbs or 168lbs next.

“I think it is now becoming evident that he is already laying out those excuses in case it goes wrong at 147lbs.

“But I’ve been there during a weight cut, it is a challenging time so I get what we are seeing from him.”
