A coach carrying Manchester City fans to the Carabao Cup final has burst into flames on the M6.

The coach caught ablaze on the way down to Wembley for today’s showpiece event with Arsenal, sparking travel chaos for those making their way to the capital for the showdown between the Premier League leaders.

City face the Gunners for the first piece of domestic silverware later today, with kick off currently scheduled for 4:30pm.

One user posted a picture of the coach on X with the following caption: “Sharing via a friend on the way to Wembley….. Man City fan coach on way to Wembley on fire on M6 just after the toll so we are at a stand still. Hope everyone is ok”

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue service scrambled to the scene to get the blaze under control.

As such, the motorway has been closed as emergency services work to clear the scene.

“The M6 Toll in Warwickshire is closed southbound between T4 (Weeford) and T2 (Coleshill) due to a coach fire,” National Highways said in a statement.

“Emergency services including Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance.

“National Highways Traffic Officers are also providing assistance with traffic management on scene.”

Diversions have been put in place and drivers have been advised to seek alternative routes.

While it remains to be seen whether the Carabao Cup final will be delayed as a result, this weekend saw travel problems impact Saturday’s Premier League meeting between Brighton and Liverpool.

Brighton vs Liverpool delayed

The game at the AMEX was scheduled for a 12:30pm kick off over the weekend, but was pushed back by 15 minutes at short notice due to heavy traffic outside the stadium.

However, a road traffic accident on the A27 meant the lunchtime clash was delayed until 12:45pm as Brighton released a statement just 39 minutes before the scheduled kick-off time.

It coincided with a points failure between Littlehampton and Brighton on Southern Rail, which resulted in train delays and cancellations.

Brighton went on to win the game 2-1 after Danny Welbeck opened the scoring for the Seagulls.

Milos Kerkez fired the Reds level on the half hour mark before Welbeck scored his and Brighton’s second shortly after the restart.
