‘Make mistakes’ – David Beckham makes first public comments since son Brooklyn’s bombshell tirade

David Beckham has spoken for the first time since his son Brooklyn’s astonishing social media claims on Monday.

Brooklyn, the eldest of David and Victoria Beckham‘s four children, released a bombshell statement on social media slamming his parents, his family and their treatment towards his wife Nicola Peltz.

The 26-year-old said that his parents have tried to control him for most of his life in order to protect ‘Brand Beckham’.

Brooklyn also accused his mum of deliberately disrupting his wedding on more than one occasion, including an ‘inappropriate’ dance on him and insisted that he ‘does not want to reconcile’ with his family.

What were David’s first public words after his son’s tirade?

David was on CNBC’s financial program Squawk Box, where he spoke about the mistakes kids can make on social media.

“I have always spoken about social media and the power of social media . . . For the good and for the bad,” the former Manchester United, England and Real Madrid star said.

“What kids can access these days, it can be dangerous.

“But what I have found personally, especially with my kids as well, use it for the right reasons.

“I’ve been able to use my platform for my following, for UNICEF.

“And it has been the biggest tool to make people aware of what’s going on around the world for children.

“And I have tried to do the same with my children, to educate them.

“They make mistakes, but children are allowed to make mistakes. That is how they learn. That is what I try to teach my kids.

“You sometimes have to let them make those mistakes as well.”

His comments came after he endured a morning of press scrutiny while posing for the camera at the 56th annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

The forum could not have been timed any worse for the 50-year-old after the events of the previous night.

However, Becks came dressed for the occasion in a dark suit as he carried out his duties in front of the waiting media.

At one point, he was asked by a Sky News reporter if he had a message for Brooklyn.

He was probed further by the reporter who asked: “David, are you disappointed family business is being aired in public?”

The Inter Miami co-owner refused to respond to either question as fans flocked to get a closer glimpse of the former footballer.

Brooklyn’s gripes

The Beckham family affairs escalated after Brooklyn posted a lengthy statement on his Instagram account.

It read: “I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private.

“Unfortunately my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.

“I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.

“For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family.

David and Brooklyn’s relationship has hit rock bottom

“The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.

“Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they’ll go through to place countless lies in the media mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade. But I believe the truth always comes out.

“The night before our wedding, members of my family told me that Nicola was ‘not blood’ and ‘not family’.

“Since the moment I started standing up for myself with my family, I’ve received endless attacks from my parents, both privately and publicly, that were sent to the press on their orders.

“Even my brothers were sent to attack me on social media, before they ultimately blocked me out of nowhere this last summer.”

He went into detail about the ongoing events at his wedding in 2022, claiming his mother ‘hijacked his and his new wife’s first dance and joined him on stage at the expense of Nicola.

“She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life,” he wrote.

“My wife has been consistently disrespected by my family, no matter how hard we’ve tried to come together as one.

“My mum has repeatedly invited women from my past into our lives in ways that were clearly intended to make us both uncomfortable.”

Brooklyn also explained his version of events after he failed to turn up to his Dad’s lavish 50th birthday bash last year.

Brooklyn’s absence was the subject of much media attention at the time but he now claims that David ‘refused’ all his attempts to meet up somewhere private.

“He refused all of our attempts, unless it was at his big birthday party with a hundred guests and cameras at every corner,” Brooklyn wrote.

“When he finally agreed to see me, it was under the condition that Nicola wasn’t invited.

“It was a slap in the face. Later, when my family travelled to LA, they refused to see me at all.

“My family values public promotion and endorsement above all else.

“Brand Beckham comes first.”
