The Mumbai Indians beat the Gujarat Titans in dominant fashion by 99 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in Match 30 of the 2026 Indian Premier League.

Being put into bat on a black-soil wicket in Ahmedabad, the Mumbai Indians rode to 199/5 on the back of a sublime unbeaten century from Tilak Verma. They were rattled early with Kagiso Rabada’s three-wicket burst in the powerplay. Bowling at speeds well over 140 kmph, he got rid of debutant Danish Malewar, Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav, leaving the five-time champions reeling at 44/3.

Naman Dhir and Tilak got together to rebuild the innings. Dhir fell for 45, but Tilak, who started slowly, carried on. He took on the Titans’ bowlers single-handedly in the back end as he reached his century off the final ball of the innings.

The visitors carried this momentum to their bowling innings, as Jasprit Bumrah got rid of Sai Sudharsan off the first ball of the innings, his first wicket of the season. Hardik Pandya trapped Jos Buttler in front in the following over, and Ashwani Kumar, playing his first game of the season, got rid of the in-form Shubman Gill. The Mumbai bowlers kept chipping away at the Titans with wickets.

Mitchell Santner dismissed Washington Sundar and Glenn Phillips in the same over as the hosts lost their way in the chase. Ashwani finished the game with figures of 4/24 from his four overs. AM Ghazanfar picked up the last two wickets as they bundled the Titans out for 100. The five-time champions put on a brilliant performance with bat, ball, and in the field as they broke their four-game winless streak with their first IPL win at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Key moments from the match:

1. Tilak's comeback to runs transpires into maiden IPL century

Mumbai Indians, in desperate need of a victory, found themselves reeling at 44-3 in the powerplay. Enter Tilak Varma. The southpaw’s form has come under scrutiny, having struggled to score runs this season. Starting slowly, he played second fiddle to Naman Dhir at the start, scoring 19 runs off his first 22 balls.

What followed was a masterful and brutish display of hitting. He scored 82 runs off his next 23 balls as he led the Mumbai Indians to a strong total of 199/5. Batting on 91 with two balls left in the innings, he hit Prasidh Krishna for a six and a four to reach his milestone. Tilak’s celebration was animated, coming to Mumbai’s rescue with his first century in the IPL.

2. Kagiso Rabada breaks MI open in powerplay

Mumbai Indians, and struggling in the powerplay with the bat, a common theme of the 2026 season. The Titans added to the woes as they had the five-time champions reeling at 46 /3 in their first six overs.

And the wrecker in chief was Kagiso Rabada. The South African speedster got rid of debutant Danish Malewar, Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav in his early three-over burst. Rabada was bowling quickly, consistently hitting over 140 kmph and hitting the hard lengths to perfection.

3. Mumbai lands early blows with the ball

Jasprit Bumrah had been wicketless in the IPL for five games. But he quickly changed that as Sai Sudharsan chipped one to debutant Krish Bhagat at covers. Hardik Pandya followed it up by trapping Jos Buttler in front with an in-swinger.

While the duo of Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar were repairing the Gujarat innings, the Titans skipper swiped a short ball of Ashwani Kumar’s bowling straight to Naman Dhir at deep square leg. Before this, Mumbai had just taken five wickets in the powerplay, but on this occasion, they picked off the Titans’ big three cheaply, which was vital in their victory.
