Where to watch Arsenal vs Chelsea: Perfect Premier League record to end in London derby

Arsenal and Chelsea put their perfect Premier League records on the line in a huge London derby this weekend.

The Gunners and the Blues have both picked up two wins from two to start of the new season, beating Aston Villa 1-0 and Brighton 4-3 respectively last time out.

And this should be the biggest test yet for both sides, as Mikel Arteta‘s reigning champions go up against a Chelsea team who have scored plenty of goals under Xabi Alonso so far.

Arsenal boast a formidable recent record against Chelsea, winning each of the last three meetings in all competitions.

In fact, the Blues haven’t beaten their London rivals for just over five years.

Arsenal vs Chelsea team news

Both managers could make changes on Sunday for various reasons.

Arteta may hand a first Arsenal Premier League start to Bruno Guimaraes after the £75m man returned from injury as a substitute against Aston Villa.

Eberechi Eze also impressed after replacing Christos Tzolis on the left at half-time and could be in contention to start.

But the Gunners remain without Jurrien Timber and William Saliba, while fellow defender Cristhian Mosquera a doubt due to a knock – meaning Ezri Konsa could make his first start for the club having debuted off the bench against his former side Villa.

Alonso was hopeful that Moises Caicedo hadn’t sustained any kind of serious injury after he was forced off last weekend.

However, Marco Palestra – still waiting to make his Chelsea debut – is still doubtful, with fellow summer signing Jordan Henderson not quite ready to feature after breaking his arm in a freak accident at the World Cup.

Arteta v Emi’s ‘aura’

Arteta is happy with the strength in depth in his squad as he looks to rack up points early this season.

He said: “We know how difficult it is to earn points in this league. That is what we need.

“The players that come in make the difference, all of them contributed to create more dominance and more momentum.

“The level of focus and the way they want to contribute to the team, that is going to be decisive in the season.”

Alonso believes Emi Martinez will have a huge impact on his Chelsea squad.

He said: “Emi is a World Cup winner, is 33 years old, and is very experienced.

“We talked about the game and our team. He felt ready, and I don’t have to tell him many things for him to perform.

“Even today, while a goalkeeper wants to keep a clean sheet, I am happy with his impact. He has been in the building just 48 hours, so now we will have a whole week to prepare for the next one.

“Day by day, we will feel this presence because he has this charisma, this aura to influence and have a very positive connection with the rest of the team.”
