LSU Tigers land massive JUCO CB

On Saturday, LSU bolstered its defensive backfield by landing junior college cornerback Lavonte Williams of Georgia Military Academy, addressing depth concerns in the Tigers’ secondary ahead of the 2026 season.

Williams, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound corner, played 11 games in his lone JUCO season, producing 17 tackles, one interception, and five pass breakups. The South Carolina native drew interest from programs including Kansas State, North Dakota State, Liberty, Prairie View A&M, and others before committing to LSU.

The move comes as the Tigers’ cornerback room faces depth issues following Aidan Anding’s torn Achilles suffered during a spring scrimmage while intercepting a pass. Anding had been projected in a reserve role behind starters DJ Pickett and PJ Woodland. After his injury, the second unit featured Ja’Keem Jackson and Michael Turner.

Because the NCAA transfer portal is closed in the spring window, LSU turned to the junior college route. While Williams can be recruited outside the portal, he has to meet NCAA eligibility standards, including obtaining an NCAA Eligibility Number and completing at least 48 transferable semester hours for Division I eligibility.

Williams is expected to enroll in Baton Rouge during the summer, allowing him to participate fully in offseason conditioning and preseason preparations. He is reportedly viewed as a physical corner with man-to-man coverage ability, fitting the Tigers’ defensive needs under coordinator Corey Raymond’s preference for size and physicality at the position.

The addition aligns with LSU’s aggressive roster-building approach under head coach Lane Kiffin, who has placed strong importance on urgency in assembling a championship-caliber team. The program’s defensive rebuild has also been impacted by injuries, including edge rusher Gabriel Reliford’s torn ACL.

Williams joins a roster constructed with a reported $40 million NIL budget, as the Tigers continue to revamp their defense through high school recruiting, transfers, and JUCO additions.
