Liverpool will be looking to get back to winning ways on Wednesday night in the Champions League having fallen to a shock 3-0 defeat at home against a Nottingham Forest side sat in the Premier League’s relegation zone on Saturday afternoon.

The weekend’s defeat was Arne Slot’s side second in succession in all competitions but was their sixth in their last seven Premier League matches in a disastrous run of results which started with a five point lead at the top of the table and now leaves them in the bottom half.

The Reds have lost eight of their last 11 games in all competitions in a drastic collapse in form having won seven matches on the spin from the start of the Premier League campaign, but their latest defeat has left them sat 12th in the standings.

The Merseyside club have fared slightly better in their Champions League campaign, winning three of their four matches in the competition so far and currently occupying an all important top eight position which will see them qualify directly for the last 16.

PSV make the trip to Anfield from Eindhoven in the Netherlands as the runaway leaders in the Eredivisie, their 1-0 win at Breda on Saturday afternoon opening up a six point lead over second placed Feyenoord, the team Slot joined Liverpool from.

Peter Bosz’s side head to England unbeaten in their last 11 matches, which includes seven wins in their last eight games in all competitions.

The reigning Dutch champions side fell to defeat in their opening Champions League clash this season but have since held Bayer Leverkusen and Olympiacos to a draw, and even managed a notable 6-2 win over Italian champions Napoli last month.

Liverpool have won five of their last six matches against PSV, including all three previous meetings at Anfield, though did fall to defeat in their most recent match with the Dutch side in Eindhoven last season, losing 3-2 on the final day of the league phase table.

The Reds have looked much better in Europe than in domestic competition in recent weeks, getting the better of Real Madrid in their last Champions League clash, and will see Wednesday’s clash as the perfect opportunity to get back winning ways.

A cagey affair can be expected due to the Slot’s side lack of form and confidence, but their strength and depth and quality should see them continue their fine Champions League record – I envisage a 2-1 home win being played out an Anfield.
