Liverpool vs PSV Eindhoven: Team news

Florian Wirtz is a major doubt to feature for Liverpool against PSV having sat out team training on Tuesday ahead of the clash.

The £116million summer arrival was sidelined for the defeat to Nottingham Forest at the weekend with a knock, but head coach Slot assured that his absence shouldn’t be for a long period.

In another blow to the Reds, full-backs Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley both remain out with respective muscular injuries.

As a result, Dominik Szoboszlai is once again expected to deputise at right-back, having started in the role against Nottingham Forest.

While many would have expected Joe Gomez to fill in here, Slot has revealed the England defender recently underwent a painkilling injection in his knee, hence his decision to keep him on the bench at the weekend.

Meanwhile for PSV, they continue to be without striker Alassane Plea, who is a long-term absentee following a serious knee injury in August.

Ruben van Bommel is the Dutch side’s only other injury concern, with the the younger winger facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, also due to a serious knee injury.

Liverpool vs PSV Eindhoven: What has been said?

Despite enduring a nightmare run of form of late, Liverpool boss Slot has insisted he remains calm in the face of criticism.

While the Dutchman guided the Reds to the title in his first season at, he has come under fire recently, with results falling well short of the high standards he has set for himself.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of the PSV clash, Slot explained: “To stay calm, I don’t find it that difficult to do.

“It’s in my character. Most people would describe me as a calm person.

“These situations, it’s not really nice, is it? It’s not nice to lose, especially at such a club like Liverpool. To be honest, I didn’t expect to be in this situation, the way we go about it tactically, and the quality of players we have.

“You can say it’s the sixth our of seven loss in Premier League but I can say in last four matches we’ve lost two, and in the Champions League we’ve won three. But it’s lower than the level expected at Liverpool.

“I take the responsibility, I feel guilty for it. We are busy working on it. I’m at the club where we aren’t just used to being successful, but also times when we aren’t. We are going to give extra effort. As a manager, I try to lead by example and try even harder.”
