Liverpool had an £86.3million bid rejected for the RB Leipzig star, who was their priority target for the summer.

However, PSG have emerged as his chosen destination in what is a big blow for Andoni Iraola’s side.

It’s understood that Liverpool were cautious of a repeat of last year’s transfer saga involving Alexander Isak.

They completed a club record £125m deal with Newcastle United for the striker on deadline day last summer.

Their pursuit of Isak lasted throughout the transfer window before the move was finally completed.

Liverpool’s bid for Diomande was worth £69m plus £17.3m in add-ons.

They are looking to sign another attacker or winger in addition to the squad following the arrival of Victor Munoz.

Munoz completed a move to Anfield after his £34m release clause was activated.

Now that Liverpool are no longer eyeing a deal for Diomande, they are set to look towards alternative targets.

They include FC Koln’s Said El Mala, whose move to Brentford fell through, Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh and Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo.

Liverpool have already completed two new signings ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Alongside Munoz, centre-back Jeremy Jacquet will arrive at Anfield from Rennes.

The Reds completed the signing of the 20-year-old in February to bolster their backline.

Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott is also on Liverpool’s radar in a move that would see him work under Iraola again.

However, he is valued at £80m and their rivals Manchester United are also interested.

Furthermore, Cherries sources have doubled down on the stance that their ambitious owner Bill Foley does not want to cash in.
