Lions HC Dan Campbell refuses to overhype May OTAs ‘pajama party’
The Detroit Lions are in the middle of OTAs right now, beginning the early portion of the offseason program to prepare for the upcoming 2026-27 campaign. While some teams are already expressing excitement over some of the players on their rosters, head coach Dan Campbell is humming a different tune.
Campbell, who is 50 years old, refused to hype up anybody or anything from the Lions’ OTAs so far, according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team. The fifth-year head coach referenced OTAs as a “pajama party,” and just wants to hurry up and get to training camp.
“There are a lot of guys who have done well for two days in pajamas… “I’m done with the hype of the pajama party in May. We’ll find out in training camp who’s who.”

While the comments are fiery, Campbell is chomping at the bit to see his team in action. He even claimed that this year’s team has strong competition throughout the roster, which should, in turn, make the club even more competitive for the upcoming season.
The Lions ended last season with a 9-8 record, tying in last place with the Minnesota Vikings and missing out on the playoffs for the first time since the 2022-23 campaign. It was a big drop off from the previous year, when Detroit finished with an impressive 15-2 record.
Friday, May 29, was the final day of the first week of OTAs for the Lions. The club is scheduled for a second (June 2-4) and third (June 9-11) week of OTAs, with training camp set for late July.
