Lions’ Amon-Ra St. Brown drops savage claim on NFC North rivals

The Detroit Lions and Amon-Ra St. Brown have redemption on their minds. The wide receiver St. Brown dropped a “motivated as ever” take back on May 10. Now he dished out a savage claim on his NFC North rivals Thursday, but with a former Lion on his mind.

St. Brown chatted with B/R Gridiron on who’s the one team he loves matching up against. He quickly pointed out the NFC North champs Chicago Bears including bringing up his personal record against them. Then he answered a question about head coach Ben Johnson, who once drew plays for St. Brown with the Lions.

“I love Ben Johnson, he’s my guy. But I just don’t like the Bears because they have Ben, and Ben used to be with us,” St. Brown said. “It’s a love/hate thing.”

St. Brown’s Lions swept the regular season series against the division winners. That includes the wideout catching nine passes for 115 yards and scoring three times in Detroit’s 52-21 rout on Sept. 14. But St. Brown caught even more throws (11) and racked up more yardage (139) in the season finale victory at Soldier Field.

Some fans and analysts predicted a drop off in production from St. Brown with Johnson leaving the Motor City. Instead he caught 117 passes, 1,401 yards and scored 11 touchdowns without him.

The past USC star St. Brown brings a personal streak of 100-plus catch campaigns with him to next season. He’s scored past the 10-touchdown mark in his last three years. But now he knows retaking the division comes at the expense of beating “his guy” Johnson.
