Liberty seal spot in Commissioner’s Cup title game with win over Mystics
Breanna Stewart and the New York Liberty are on their way to the championship game of the Commissioner’s Cup after beating the Washington Mystics in the semifinals on Sunday evening.
New York is off to an incredible start this season, shining as one of the top teams in the WNBA. They are making an early case for title contention, boasting great talents in Stewart, Jonquel Jones, Satou Sabally, and Sabrina Ionescu.
They fully intend on continuing their hot start to the 2026 campaign. That includes them making a deep run in the Commissioner’s Cup midseason. They got to the semifinals and took down the Mystics to secure their place in the championship game.

How Liberty played against Mystics
It’s a strong victory for Breanna Stewart and the Liberty, getting a firm chance at earning some hardware after prevailing over the Mystics.
Shot accuracy and free throws made the difference in this matchup. The Liberty won in both categories after making 49% of their total shot attempts and making 19 free throws. It wasn’t the same for the Mystics as they only converted 34% of their attempts and made nine shots at the line.
Two players scored in double-double digits for New York in the win. Stewart produced a stat line of 14 points, 12 rebounds, seven blocks, one assist, and a steal. She shot 5-of-12 from the field, including 1-of-2 from beyond the arc, and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. Jonquel Jones led the team with 20 points and four rebounds, Leonie Fiebich had eight points and two rebounds, while Marine Johannes provided eight points and four rebounds.
New York improved to a 10-4 record on the season, boasting the top spot in the Eastern Conference standings. They are above the Atlanta Dream and the Indiana Fever at the moment.
Rolling with seven consecutive wins, the Liberty will look forward to their next matchup. They will be on the road when they face the Chicago Sky on June 17 at 8 p.m. ET.
