‘Learn from Ishan Kishan’ - Vivek Razdan sends blunt message to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi after Duleep Trophy cameo

Star Indian batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi produced an eye-catching knock in the Duleep Trophy final, scoring 44 runs in just 37 balls, yet his talent has been questioned less than his ability to convert starts into large first-class innings. The teenager's performance in the match drew attention from commentators and observers tracking his development as a batter.

Commentator Vivek Razdan addressed Sooryavanshi directly during the match, offering guidance on how to build on promising starts. Razdan's remarks came in the context of East Zone captain Ishan Kishan's exceptional performance in the same fixture.

"Sooryavanshi sahab, now you have to learn from players like Ishan Kishan — once you are set, how to play a long innings," Razdan said on air.

Razdan's advice to Sooryavanshi on converting starts

Razdan emphasised the physical and mental demands of batting through extended periods in challenging conditions. He noted that Kishan's ability to remain at the crease for so long demonstrated more than technical skill or temperament alone.

"Every person who is present here at this time stood up and applauded this innings. Because this is not just technique, this is not just temperament, this is also match fitness. Kishan's performance in the Duleep Trophy final was remarkable. He broke several records, playing a historic knock of 270 runs off 334 balls, an innings that included 30 fours and 7 sixes. The East Zone captain arrived at the crease with his side on 147 for three at the Chidambaram Stadium and built a substantial innings against South Zone.

This was Kishan's first-ever double hundred in first-class cricket. His 250-run knock also made him the highest run-scorer among wicketkeepers in the Duleep Trophy, surpassing the previous record held by Naman Ojha, who had scored 217 runs in an innings in 2014.

Kishan has not played Test cricket since July 2023, making his performance in the Duleep Trophy final a significant display of his form and fitness in first-class cricket.
