Patriots’ Mike Vrabel trolls media with Caleb Lomu-Will Campbell takeout

The New England Patriots have used first-round picks on left tackles in consecutive drafts, with Will Campbell in 2025 and Caleb Lomu in 2026. On Monday, Mike Vrabel made a comment about the two players that was seemingly a troll job on media members.

Mark Daniels of MassLive claims that before leaving the podium, the 51-year-old head coach informed everyone that Lomu had replaced Campbell on a “weekend update.” It made it sound as though the club’s 2026 first-round selection had managed to beat Campbell, but at what, exactly?

“One update – Caleb Lomu has taken over for Will Campbell,” Vrabel said… “At the weekend update.”

Eight minutes later, Daniels revealed what Vrabel was talking about. The weekend update, or weekly update, is a sort of initiation comedy routine that incoming rookies must do at the Patriots’ camp.

“Last year, Vrabel had Campbell read the weekly update in the morning meeting,” Daniels reported. “It’s basically a comedy routine a rookie has to do.”
