Latest White Sox’s Munetaka Murakami homer pushes him past Aaron Judge, Yordan Alvarez

Chants of “MVP” for Munetaka Murakami filled Rate Field late Monday night, after the Chicago White Sox rallied to an 8-7 win over the Los Angeles Angels. The game started at 9:40 p.m. CT after a three-hour delay, and it ended with Chicago breaking through late in its highest-scoring inning of the season.

Trailing 5-1 entering the seventh, the White Sox sent 10 batters to the plate and cranked out seven runs. The rally began with defensive miscues and timely hits, including an RBI single by Tristan Peters and a two-run double from Andrew Benintendi, who finished with three RBIs. Murakami then launched a three-run homer off Drew Pomeranz to right-center, turning a 5-4 deficit into a 7-5 lead. Miguel Vargas followed with a solo shot to increase the advantage to 8-5.

Murakami’s drive to right-center off Drew Pomeranz was his MLB-leading 12th home run, moving him ahead of Aaron Judge and Yordan Alvarez, who each have 11. The 26-year-old rookies’ 12 homers also tie him with Will Smith (2019) for the fourth-most through a player’s first 29 MLB games, behind only Aristides Aquino (14) and Rhys Hoskins (13).

Murakami has been especially productive of late, batting .349 (15-for-43) with seven home runs and 14 RBIs over his last 10 games. Chicago has gone 6-4 in those contests.

For Los Angeles, Jorge Soler homered, while Mike Trout collected two hits and scored twice. The Angels have now dropped four straight games and eight of their last nine, including another blown lead after previously losing despite holding a 6-0 advantage against the Kansas City Royals.

The White Sox got the win from Osvaldo Bido (2-0), who tossed three innings of one-run relief, and Bryan Hudson closed it out by stranding two runners in the ninth for his first career save.
