LASK vs Celtic quick tips

LASK vs Celtic predictions

Any victory would have been a positive outcome for Celtic in the first leg of their Champions League play-off against LASK, but the commanding nature of their 3-0 victory last week was hugely satisfying for the Scottish giants.

Benjamin Nygren opened the scoring for the hosts at Celtic Park, before Camilo Duran notched a brace to put Martin O’Neill’s team in a strong position at the midway point of the tie.

A manager of O’Neill’s experience knows the job is not done yet, but it is fair to say the 74-year-old would have taken that result before kick-off.

Celtic had some ruthless finishing to thank for the wide margin of their triumph. All three goals were wonderful strikes in their own ways.

LASK, on the other hand, were wasteful in and around the 18-yard box. They outperformed Celtic on shots, shots on target and expected goals, yet failed to find the back of the net in Glasgow.

That has left them with a mountain to climb in the return fixture, where even a two-goal success would send LASK crashing out of the Champions League before the competition has really begun.

Both teams had the weekend off to prepare for Tuesday’s rematch, where Celtic are strong favourites to claim one of the seven remaining Champions League berths.

LASK vs Celtic tips

Celtic take a healthy aggregate advantage to Austria for the second leg of this Champions League play-off.

Celtic should qualify from here

Celtic dominated possession in the first leg, which is what they do in virtually every match they play in domestic Scottish football.

The Hoops will need to show a different side to their game here, as they will do if they manage to qualify for the league phase of Europe’s premier tournament.

Given a narrow defeat would send them through, Celtic will not go all-out for victory here. If they are 1-0 down with 10 minutes to play, the visitors will look to hold what they have.

It is hard to see LASK turning the tie around, but they can at least salvage some pride by triumphing on the night.

Can LASK make it interesting?

LASK must score the first goal on Tuesday. If they do not, there is virtually no chance of them reaching the league phase.

Celtic could be caught in two minds early on. They must try to strike the right balance between protecting their lead and keeping LASK honest going the other way.

The hosts will aim to make a quick start in the knowledge that an early goal could make Celtic nervous.

LASK did create chances last time out, and better finishing here could see them take the lead in front of their own supporters.

Adeniran a threat

LASK play with a front two in a 3-5-2 formation, and their strikers Moses Usor and Samuel Adeniran managed 10 shots between them at Celtic Park.

Martin O’Neill will hope his defence does a better job of keeping the duo under wraps this time around, but that will not necessarily be easy away from home.

Adeniran in particular has had a bright start to the 2026/27 campaign, scoring five times in as many appearances in all competitions.

The American frontman can add another goal to his tally in the second leg of this Champions League play-off.
