Kylian Mbappe posts injury update after gruesome blow to the head

Kylian Mbappe has shared a picture of the gruesome head injury he suffered during Real Madrid’s draw with Girona.

The forward was left bloodied after a nasty collision during the closing stages of the LaLiga clash on Friday night.

Mbappe had been tussling with Girona defender Vitor Reis inside the penalty area, however, he was sent to the ground after a stray elbow from the Brazilian connected with his forehead.

Although Mbappe was left stricken on the turf, Real Madrid were not awarded a penalty.

The Frenchman has now shared a snap of the cut he suffered above his right eye.

In a post on his Instagram story, the cut can be seen whilst a medic treats the wound.

According to reports in Spain, Mbappe was forced to miss training as a result of the injury.

He had been able to continue against Girona, though, as he remained on the pitch through to the final whistle.

Real Madrid title blow

Real Madrid were unable to find a winner despite earlier leading at the Bernabeu.

Alvaro Arbeloa’s side were pegged back following Federico Valverde’s opening goal in another blow to their fading LaLiga title hopes as they handed an advantage to bitter rivals Barcelona.

Barca are now nine points clear at the top of the table with seven matches remaining.

As for Mbappe, he will hope to be cleared to face Bayern Munich in Real Madrid’s next fixture.

The two sides meet at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.

Bayern lead 2-1 from last week’s first leg in the Spanish capital, with a clash against Paris Saint-Germain or Liverpool awaiting the winner.

Mbappe has scored 39 goals in 38 appearances across all competitions for Real Madrid this season.

Those efforts include 23 goals in LaLiga, making him the division’s current top scorer.

Although he has largely remained fit and available throughout the season, he has missed six matches through injury.

Mbappe’s previous enforced absences were both caused by a persistent knee issue.
