Kris Knoblauch reveals what was missing for Oilers in Game 3 loss

The Edmonton Oilers and their head coach, Kris Knoblauch, must feel their first-round series against the Anaheim Ducks is déjà vu in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Oilers have the pieces to get the job done and look like championship favorites, but even when they make the finals in two straight seasons, it feels like something is missing. After the Oilers’ Game 3 loss to the Ducks, Knoblauch is left looking for answers again, according to NHL.com’s Derek Van Diest.

“We just have to do the little things,” Knoblauch said. “You just look at the goals against, and it’s stuff that shouldn’t happen, especially at this time of year.”

The one difference for the Oilers this year is that they are meeting their match in offensive firepower. In past series, the Oilers had these issues with the little things, but the teams they were playing didn’t have the talent to keep up with Edmonton’s best. With the Ducks, the Oilers can’t outscore their problems, and it showed in the past two games.

There are some obvious defensive issues with Edmonton, but like every other year, Knoblauch would like to see his goaltenders get him a save. It’s hard enough to score four goals in back-to-back games in the playoffs, but when you manage to lose both, there are some massive problems.

Will Knoblauch change his game plan and go with a more defensive style for the remainder of the series? While it’d be a risky move, the head coach may not have a choice but to switch things up.
