Kraken re-sign forward to one-year contract

The Seattle Kraken have retained one of their young forwards, agreeing to a one-year, two-way contract with center Logan Morrison for the 2026-27 season, the team announced on Thursday. The deal carries an NHL salary cap hit of $850,000, while Morrison will earn $280,000 if assigned to the American Hockey League.

Morrison, 23, is coming off the best season of his professional career with the Coachella Valley Firebirds, Seattle’s AHL affiliate. The Guelph, Ontario native led the Firebirds in scoring during the 2025-26 campaign, recording 29 goals and 32 assists for a career-high 61 points in 68 regular-season games.

His offensive production continued into the postseason, where he collected one goal and five assists in 12 playoff appearances. Among those contributions was a multi-point performance in Coachella Valley’s series-clinching victory over Bakersfield on April 26.

Since joining the Firebirds, Morrison has become a pivotal offensive player. Across 204 regular-season AHL games, he has amassed 59 goals and 85 assists for 144 points. In 36 playoff contests, he contributed two goals and 17 assists for 19 postseason points.

The Kraken originally signed Morrison as an undrafted free agent in 2023 following an outstanding junior career in the Ontario Hockey League. He finished with 100 points in 60 games during the 2021-22 season and followed that with 94 points in 56 games in 2022-23, performances that helped earn him an entry-level contract.

The right-shot center made his NHL debut with Seattle during the 2023-24 season, appearing in four games. He was held without a point during that stint. Although he received a late-season recall in March 2026, he did not see NHL game action, leaving those four appearances as his only games at the league’s highest level.

Morrison will be waiver-eligible for the first time heading into the fall. If he clears waivers and returns to Coachella Valley, he is expected to remain a core contributor for the Firebirds while continuing to pursue a larger opportunity with the Kraken.
