Knicks’ OG Anunoby gives ‘amazing player’ Jalen Brunson props after Game 1 win

The New York Knicks would not have even come close to making that epic Game 1 comeback against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2026 Eastern Conference Finals if it weren’t for Jalen Brunson. Brunson recorded 15 points in the fourth quarter, including 11 straight at one point, to power the Knicks’ comeback efforts from 22 points down in the fourth. In the end, the Knicks completed the comeback in overtime, scoring a 115-104 victory to take a 1-0 series lead.

Brunson finished the game with 38 points and six assists, and the Knicks, over and over again, exploited the James Harden matchup on defense. As the captain of his team, Brunson did everything he could and more to get New York to victory lane — drawing plenty of flowers in the process, including from teammate OG Anunoby.

Over and over again, Brunson has shown how incredible of a player and a leader he is for the Knicks. He is without a doubt the team’s greatest free agent acquisition ever, and since arriving in 2022, he’s done nothing but transform the team.

Now, the Knicks haven’t quite gotten over the hump yet. But this year appears to be their best chance yet of making it back to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999. It looks as though they’re destined to do so, especially when everything went their way on Tuesday night.

The Knicks need to win three more games against the Cavs, but it certainly seems as though they have plot armor protecting them from any adversity that comes their way. And who knows, perhaps Knicks fans will get their wish of facing Victor Wembanyama in the NBA Finals if everything goes according to plan.
