Knicks’ Mikal Bridges reveals how Becky Hammon fueled Jalen Brunson’s Finals dominance

Mikal Bridges and some of the main cast of the New York Knicks appeared on “Good Morning America” on Monday, but the former Villanova Wildcats star later grabbed even more attention with a show of his own on social media.

Bridges clearly took a mental note of what WNBA legend and current Las Vegas Aces head coach Becky Hammon said about Knicks star Jalen Brunson. In 2023, Hammon said that Brunson is “too small” to be the Knicks’ “1A.”

Years later, Brunson is on top of the basketball world, having led New York to a drought-ending title win, defeating a team led by a giant in the NBA Finals. Additionally, Brunson was named the 2026 NBA Finals Most Valuable Player, further diminishing whatever Hammon said, as had the Knicks defeating Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs in five games to claim the NBA crown.

Going back to Bridges, here’s what he said about Hammon’s comments during his unfiltered Instagram livestream.

“I appreciate Becky, no cap, because the words she said about, ‘Can’t win with JB being 1A, 1B. He too little.’ All that did is fuel that n****, bro,” Bridges said. “I don’t give a f*** what y’all say, what he say, I know him.”

In the NBA Finals, Brunson paced all players from both sides in scoring with an average of 32.6 points per game, while shooting 38.9 percent from behind the arc, 4.6 assists and 4.2 rebounds.

His best performance in the series came in a title-clinching win for New York, where he erupted for 45 points on 14-for-27 shooting from the floor with three assists, three rebounds, and two steals in 41 minutes.
