Knicks’ Jalen Brunson absolutely unloads on Scott Foster after physical no-call

Jalen Brunson has not had the easiest time to begin the 2026 NBA Finals clash between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs. Brunson has had to bear the brunt of the Spurs’ physical defense to start things off in Game 1, and he’s enduring a bit of a knock on his knee  that, at one point, forced him back to the locker room. But the good news is that he’s back in action for the Knicks — although avoiding injury is going to be very important for the team’s captain.

With around six minutes remaining in the second quarter, Brunson drove to the hoop against Devin Vassell and made a floating layup right over the outstretched arms of Luke Kornet. It seemed like the Spurs center made contact with Brunson’s lower body, and he was slow to get up as a result. This led to a five-on-four break for San Antonio, with Vassell capitalizing on the numbers advantage by hitting a triple.

The Knicks called a timeout immediately after Vassell’s triple, and Brunson used the pause in the action to express his frustrations towards lead official Scott Foster — screaming at him after they failed to call a foul on the Spurs on the Knicks’ previous possession.

Brunson was walking with a visible limp, clutching onto his left knee which already endured a hit earlier in the game. This early in the series, the last thing the Knicks want to see is for Brunson to be less than 100 percent. Neutral fans would also want Brunson to be healthy, if only because his presence would make for some incredible entertainment value in the NBA Finals.

At the time of writing, Brunson has been far from his best for the Knicks. He does have 11 points, but that has come on 5-17 shooting from the field, which is not his typical level of efficiency.
