Keegan Bradley gets $2.1million Ryder Cup consolation after brutal Shane Lowry comment

Keegan Bradley was given 2.1million reasons to be less disappointed about the Ryder Cup on Friday.

The defeated US captain got his revenge on two of Team Europe’s most important players by winning the first Official Skins Game in 17 years in Florida.

Bradley took on fellow American Xander Schauffele, England’s Tommy Fleetwood and Ireland’s Shane Lowry in a lucrative end-of-season exhibition.

Each player started the match with $1m, which was then adjusted based on how much money was won or lost over the course of the match.

Every hole was assigned a monetary ‘skin’ – and whoever shot the lowest score on that hole took the prize.

If there was no outright winner, the skin rolled over to the next hole, increasing the value.

The first five holes were worth $100,000 each and then gradually increased in value until the 16th was worth a whopping $600,000.

Fleetwood, who was the leading points scorer at the Ryder Cup, claimed the biggest single-hole prize, making a putt for $1.125m on the 16th hole after four skins had rolled over.

But it was Bradley who won the day, bagging 11 skins and a $2.1m pay cheque as a result.

Fleetwood was the second-biggest beneficiary with $1.7m, while Lowry claimed a $200,000 prize by winning one skin.

World No.3 Schauffele was left empty-handed, walking away with a grand total of zero dollars.

Ryder Cup revenge

Given Lowry holed the winning putt at the Ryder Cup in New York two months ago, there was an obvious undercurrent of America vs Europe in Florida.

Before the event began, Lowry said: “Kegan’s already paid me and Tommy extra to not talk about Ryder Cup.”

To which Bradley responded: “I won’t have a walkie-talkie in my hand on Friday. I’ll have a golf club, which is my chance to get back at these two maniacs down here.”

During the match, after holing a ten-footer at the third to prevent Bradley winning a $225,000 skin, Lowry said: “I’ve just spent the last few months breaking Keegan Bradley‘s heart.”

And Bradley did not hide his satisfaction upon getting a small piece of revenge on the two Europeans.

After winning hole five, Bradley admitted: “Oh man, that felt good.

“I need as much revenge against Tommy and Shane as I can get. That’s a start.”
