Dodgers news: Mookie Betts drops ‘awesome’ reaction to Freddie Freeman’s career milestone

Freddie Freeman has been one of the best first basemen in the MLB for quite some time. The Los Angeles Dodgers star recently cemented his legacy after reaching 2,500 hits in his entire career. This makes him the 102nd player in MLB history to achieve this mark, and most importantly, the only active player to get this achievement. It’s been a hell of a ride for the Dodgers star

After the game, Mookie Betts reacted to his teammate’s record. The Dodgers star said that Freeman’s 2,500-hit record is something that was inevitably going to happen. The reason, he says, is because Freeman has been consistently good for so long.

“Oh, it’s awesome,” Betts said, per SportsNet LA. “I mean, he’s the first person I’ve seen accomplish something like that. So he’s been around for a while and he’s been really good for a while. So I think these things are coming up because because of that, you know, he’s so good for so long.”

Freeman, who is in his 17th season in the MLB, started his career with the Atlanta Braves. There, the star first baseman became one of the most underrated players in the league. His crowning achievement came in 2021, when he helped the Braves win their first World Series win against the Houston Astros. Freeman would shortly after sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers, helping jumpstart another dynasty.

With LA, Freeman further cemented his legacy as one of the greatest 1Bs in modern history. He helped the Dodgers win two more titles, including an impressive campaign in 2024 that ended with him winning his only World Series MVP award. Freeman’s list of accolades is nothing to scoff at: nine All-Star selections, three championships, one WS MVP, an MVP award in 2020, and three consecutive Silver Slugger awards from 2019 to 2021.

With Freeman on the wrong side of 30, there are talks about his impending retirement. The Dodgers star himself has hinted at him potentially hanging up his cleats. However, his performance this season is still at a great level. We’ll see what the star decides to do at the end of the year after LA’s quest for the elusive three-peat.
