Jonathan Quick honored by Rangers ahead of final NHL start before retirement
It has been a difficult season for the New York Rangers. The Rangers will miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs for a second straight season. As the Rangers prepare to play their final two games of the season, Jonathan Quick is preparing to play the final game of his NHL career.
Quick will get the start in net on Monday night against the Florida Panthers, and the Rangers are honoring the longtime goaltender with a statement from GM Chris Drury posted on X, formerly Twitter.
“In a career that spanned close to two decades in the National Hockey League, Jonathan Quick became not just the winningest American-born goaltender of all-time, but also one of the best goaltenders in hockey history. A three-time Stanley Cup Champion, he earned the utmost respect of teammates, coaches, and staff members through his work ethic and dedication to his craft. Jonathan is a special person and player, and the entire Rangers organization wishes him – along with his wife Jackie and three children, Madison, Carter, and Cash – all the best in retirement,” the statement from Drury read.
Quick was the 72nd overall selection of the 2005 NHL Draft by the Los Angeles Kings and broke into the NHL with the Kings in the 2007-08 season. He would be with the Kings into the 2022-23 season, when he was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Quick was traded one day later to the Vegas Golden Knights, finishing the season with them.
Ahead of the 2023-24 season, Quick signed as a free agent with the Rangers to be the backup to Igor Shesterkin. In his career, he was a three-time all-star and a three-time Stanley Cup champion. He also won the Conn Smythe in 2012, while setting the record for highest save percentage in a playoff season with a .946 save percentage.
Quick has won 407 times in his career, which is 12th all-time, and the most for an American-born netminder.
The Rangers are 33-38-9 on the season, locking in the worst record in the Eastern Conference. Quick will make his 829th and final start as an NHL netminder on Monday, with puck drop set for 7 pm ET against the Panthers.
