John Tortorella’s true feelings on ‘concern level’ after Game 2 Ducks loss

The Vegas Golden Knights won Game 1 of their second-round matchup against the Anaheim Ducks on Monday. However, the Golden Knights expressed some concern with their play in the opening game. On Wednesday night, the Ducks won Game 2 to even this second-round series at one game apiece.

John Tortorella has not coached the Golden Knights for very long. In fact, adding in postseason games to his ledger, the veteran bench boss has coached fewer than 20 games with this franchise. He is new to the team, and admitted there is some level of concern. He mentioned the need to improve their game after losing Game 2 on Wednesday.

“I think we’re always concerned no matter what. Coaches are always looking to pronounce the good things, work on the bad things. We still got some things to work on,” the Golden Knights coach said, via Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter Danny Webster.

Tortorella’s Knights had to withstand early pressure due to penalty trouble in the first period. Vegas was able to keep the Ducks off the scoreboard in the first period. However, Bennett Sennecke scored the opening goal in the second frame. And the Ducks did not look back after gaining the lead.

The Golden Knights certainly need to work on their game. Anaheim is a young, inexperienced team that isn’t used to these environments like Vegas is. At the same time, they are not rolling over. They defeated Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers in the first round. In this series, they have already shown that they can hang with Vegas.

Tortorella and his players will look to rebound from this loss on Friday night when the series shifts to Honda Center in Anaheim for Game 3.
