John Cena reveals what he misses the most about WWE

After enjoying a career spanning several decades, John Cena finally retired at the end of 2025. During an edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event in Dec. 2025, Cena finally gave up and tapped out to Gunther, marking an end to his legendary career.

Now, almost six months later, Cena appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where he opened up about his decision to retire from wrestling as well as the wrestling aspect he misses the most.

When asked if he misses the physicality of wrestling, Cena responded with a negative answer. “No. What I miss is the audience. The energy that I feel when you come through the curtain,” Cena said.

“I had to walk away because I can’t get bodyslammed anymore. It was time.” When asked about how it feels to not regularly appear on Monday Night RAW, Cena said, “Tuesdays are great. Tuesdays used to be a little jagged. Little tough.”

Despite hanging up his boots, “The Leader of Cenation” has continued appearing on WWE. Cena hosted WWE WrestleMania 42, where he appeared multiple times, including during the announcement of Bianca Belair’s pregnancy. Cena also appeared at Backlash 2026, where he announced the concept of the John Cena Classic tournament.

Different from any other tournament WWE has ever seen, the John Cena Classic tournament received severe criticism and negative feedback upon its announcement. However, Cena appeared on social media and defended the tournament.

“When asked to give advice, especially with WWE, I often reply ‘be authentic’ ‘do not fear failure’ ‘know your why.’ The John Cena Classic may not be perfect by any means yet it’s authentically me (I am not perfect either) and reflects my values and beliefs.I’m aware that there is the risk it might be a total failure and I’m not afraid of that and believe it’s still worth stepping ‘in the arena,’” he wrote.
