Jaylen Brown did not stutter about Celtics’ 32-point Game 1 demolition of 76ers

The Boston Celtics were a determined group as they started their run in the 2026 NBA playoff with a spectacular 123-91 triumph over the Philadelphia 76ers in their Eastern Conference series opener.

The second-seeded Celtics were clear double-digit favorites over the 76ers, who started the series without big man Joel Embiid. The Sixers lost their center when he suffered an appendectomy in the final week of the regular season. The 76ers have high hopes that he will be able to play at some point in the best of 7 series.

However, it doesn’t appear that Embiid would have been of much help in Game 1 of the series. The Celtics were on fire throughout the game and built a big lead early and were never headed. Jayson Tatum led the way with 28 points and fellow superstar Jaylen Brown had 26 points.

The Celtics had the biggest margin of victory in any playoff opener, and Brown said that reflects the team’s determination to have a long and productive run in the postseason. “That was Celtics basketball,” Brown said. “We’ve been the harder playing team all year. That can’t change now that the playoffs started. We’re ready. We’re prepared. It sets the tone and reflects our focus and our intensity.”

The playoffs could not have started any better for the Celtics. They have been rounding into top form in recent games since Tatum returned from the Achilles injury that ended his season in last year’s playoffs. The Celtics have a couple of talented superstars in Tatum and Brown and a very strong supporting cast that includes Payton Pritchard, Derrick White and Sam Hauser.
