Jayden Daniels gives candid Brandon Aiyuk answer amid Commanders buzz

The Washington Commanders had high hopes for the 2025 season, but they fell short due to a lot of injuries and some roster limitations. After missing the playoffs, the Commanders were left picking up the pieces and seeing how they could improve.

One of the areas where many people expected a move in Washington was at wide receiver. Jayden Daniels is lacking weapons outside of Terry McLaurin, making that position group a prime target in mock drafts and free agency predictions.

While the Commanders haven’t made a big move at wide receiver yet this offseason, San Francisco 49ers standout Brandon Aiyuk is still seemingly available, and Washington is a popular landing spot.

However, Aiyuk didn’t play football last season and was cited for speeding while he was sidelined. The 49ers have been trying to find a trade partner for him, but it feels more and more likely that he will eventually be released and become a free agent.

Daniels and Aiyuk played together back at Arizona State and have remained friends since. Despite that, the star quarterback didn’t have much to offer on Aiyuk’s situation on Wednesday, via Ben Standig.

“I don’t know, I don’t have a sense on it,” Daniels said. “That is my brother and we have a personal relationship. His football future, that’s out of my control.”

Aiyuk doesn’t seem to have very many suitors, which makes the Commanders a logical landing spot due to the state of their receiver room and his connection to Daniels. However, it’s not a given that he ends up in Washington, so it makes for an interesting situation to monitor throughout the summer.

At the moment, Treylon Burks and rookie wideout Antonio Williams are projected to start at wide receiver alongside McLaurin, with the likes of Dyami Brown and Luke McCaffrey also getting reps. That lineup of receivers isn’t going to keep defensive coordinators up at night, so it would be no surprise to see Washington go out and get Aiyuk to help Daniels out in 2026 and beyond.
