The Philadelphia Eagles just lost a game they would’ve won more often than not. They gave up 24 unanswered points after leading 21-0 to drop a divisional contest against the Dallas Cowboys.

Notably, the Cowboys have one of the best offenses in the game, so even despite the turnovers, they were always a threat to put up points on the scoreboard. That’s why the Eagles needed to do a better job of running out the clock.

That wasn’t the case, and Saquon Barkley only had 10 carries for 22 yards. It was probably his worst game with the Eagles – and maybe even his worst game as a pro.

However, it’s not entirely on him. As Jason Kelce said on ESPN, the Eagles’ once-great offensive line just hasn’t been as dominant this season, especially in terms of blocking for the run:

“[The Eagles O-Line] has been something that has been hurting this offense all year. They’ve been a top-10 rushing unit as an offense since Jalen Hurts has been a starter. This year is the first year they have really struggled to run the football. It is crippling this offense,” Kelce said.

The Eagles lost Kelce, arguably the greatest center of his generation, when he retired two years ago. They did just fine with Cam Jurgens at center, but they haven’t been as solid in the interior this season. Now, losing Lane Johnson with a foot injury for the next couple of weeks isn’t going to do much to help their case.

Offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo has been under a lot of heat this season, and rightfully so, as he’s playing a predictable and overly conservative offense. Still, as much as he should be singled out for the way this offense has regressed, the personnel also have to be held accountable and do a better job.
