Jason Kelce feeds the NFL beast that $100m Monday Night Football star complains about as fan backlash sets in

It is funny listening to Jason Kelce complain about the NFL spreading itself thin.

Because if there’s anyone in the NFL media landscape who’s completely all over the place, it’s the other Kelce brother who already seems to be losing his hold over football fans across America.

NFL fans are getting tired of too much Kelce

“Sunday is the day of football,” Kelce recently said on his New Heights podcast.

“Outside of going to church in the morning, if you’re still religious and you do that, Sunday is like where so many games happen and that’s what you grow up, and you gear your entire week around watching football on Sunday. It’s an institution at this point, the NFL playing games on Sunday.”

Then the former Philadelphia Eagles center and current ESPN Monday Night Football analyst — who has a $100 million media deal with Amazon, which broadcasts Thursday Night Football — hammered the NFL for playing too many games on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

“I worry that the game got big — one of the reasons it got so popular and big was because . . . it was an event,” Kelce said.

“Sunday is the NFL and everybody sets their week apart to tune in to their games that are happening on Sunday, and you’re watching kind of all of them now take place across. I worry that we’re getting away from that just a little bit by building too many of this.”

On TV, Kelce loves to play the ‘crazy guy’ who breaks rules and does the opposite of what others expect.

So it’s a little rich listening to a complaint from Kelce about the NFL breaking tradition, all while the expected future Hall of Famer constantly promotes his post-NFL career by breaking tradition.

“He is eroding everyone’s ears. The guy is a clown show,” one fan tweeted.

Jason loves to steal the NFL spotlight

“Exhibit A for what ESPN has done with gimmicks and side shows. He had a decent career as an offensive lineman, but he and his brother are off the field attention seeking clowns.”

That’s obviously a little harsh.

But a January 2026 video posted by the NFL of an on-field interaction between Kelce and a Steelers player — before Pittsburgh was blown out 30-6 by the Houston Texans in an AFC Wild Card home playoff game — captures how annoying Kelce has become be to some NFL fans.

Jason Kelce‘s MNF shenanigans continue” is the headline of the YouTube short, which sees Kelce ‘lining up’ in his TV clothes vs a Steelers player in a game uniform.

“Kelce is such a oddball on ESPN,” one fan posted. “He just does not add the talent to be a(n) announcer or whatever they call him.”

“The Kelce brothers have become very unlikeable since the Chiefs went back to back,” a second fan wrote.

Travis punches back vs Jason’s NFL criticism

Thankfully, Travis — who was recently seen appearing to fall asleep at an NBA playoff game while sitting next to future wife, Taylor Swift — punched back vs his big brother.

“They’re very few and far in between outside of the holidays. There’s not just like a random Wednesday game in September,” Travis Kelce said.

Wide receivers of all-time – Does Randy Moss or Jerry Rice come out on top?

Running backs of all-time – Stacking Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith and more

Tight ends of all-time – How does Travis Kelce compare?

“I just looked at (the Chiefs’) schedule and we got four games that aren’t on Sunday. And we probably have the higher end of that not playing on Sunday.

“I think it’s awesome, I honestly do. … I think it’s fun, man. I don’t think it’s as taxing as it may seem because it’s the NFL — you’re living out your dream. If there’s a chance to play on a f***ing primetime game — which all these one-off games are that aren’t on Sunday — I’m f***ing getting so excited for those opportunities.”

The NFL is king of American TV

The NFL keeps flexing its TV muscle because football dominates traditional television in the USA.

Among the 100 most-watched programs in 2025, a whopping 83 were NFL games.

The Premier League regularly spreads its contests throughout the week, blending Monday and Friday matches into the ‘normal’ Saturday and Sunday calendar.

But the biggest disconnect in Jason Kelce’s comments about the NFL getting away from its Sunday ‘tradition’ comes down to how a six-time All-Pro and Super Bowl champion has made his name off the field.

Jason isn’t just internet famous because he’s Travis’ older brother.

Jason has become best known for being the big guy who parties with fans in the stands, chugs beers and takes over your TV — even when all you want to do is watch an NFL game or listen to real pre-game analysis.
