Jalen Brunson reveals Knicks’ ‘advantage’ after taking 2-0 lead on Cavs

The New York Knicks are rolling. Their 109-93 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals marks their ninth consecutive victory in this year’s playoffs, dating back to Game 4 of their first-round matchup against the Atlanta Hawks.

While everything is looking up for the Knicks, there is a long way to go for them to finally break the franchise’s 27-year NBA Finals drought — especially when this Cavs team just came back from a 2-0 deficit in the previous round against a 60-win Detroit Pistons team.

The good news is that even with the Knicks being on fire, they are being tested and pushed to their limits. On Thursday night, they had to figure out how to grease the wheels on offense with the Cavs devoting so much of their defensive attention to Jalen Brunson. And they still managed to win in convincing fashion, with Brunson taking on the role of a playmaker (14 assists) to exploit the openings his gravity creates.

After the game, Brunson revealed how much of an advantage the Knicks have as they continue to learn how to win in different ways.

“I think it’s an advantage for us, learning how to play differently. There are gonna be times where one gameplan is going to be different from the next. Being able to adjust, learn and adjust on the fly is something that we need to continue to get better at. But I think we’ve been doing a great job at it. Just got to continue to be open to figure out how to win the next game,” Brunson said in his postgame presser, via SNY’s Knicks Videos on X (formerly Twitter).

In the playoffs, navigating a seven-game series requires teams to make so many adjustments, and the Knicks passing the adjustment test with flying colors certainly bodes well as far as their hopes of competing for a title goes.
