Jalen Brunson moves up all-time Knicks list amid Game 2 vs. Cavs

Jalen Brunson has been far from his best for the New York Knicks in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference Finals series against the Cleveland Cavaliers, but it has scarcely mattered for this streaking Knicks team. Brunson has not quite been his explosive scorer self, as the Cavs have limited him to just 11 points up until the six minute mark or so of the fourth quarter, but he still has a chance to continue etching his name deeper into Knicks lore.

Brunson entered the night with 312 points through 11 playoff games in 2026. He needs to score just 10 points to become the first player in Knicks history to have three top-15 scoring postseason runs, as pointed out by Jim Miloch of Basketball Reference, and he accomplished that feat on Thursday night.

The Knicks star accomplished the feat in the fourth quarter, with around less than six minutes remaining in Game 2. Brunson got himself switched onto James Harden yet again, and he responded by dropping home a midrange jumper from his signature spot.

There is no question that Brunson has become one of the greatest players in Knicks franchise history. His arrival changed the trajectory of this franchise; since signing with the team in 2022, they’ve at least made it to the second round of the playoffs, with two of their playoff runs going as far as the Eastern Conference Finals (at least to this point).

During the 2025 NBA playoffs, Brunson fell just short of setting the Knicks’ all-time record for most points scored in a single playoff run. Brunson recorded 530 points last year, falling 18 points shy of Patrick Ewing’s record of 548 points, which he set during the 1994 NBA playoffs.

In 1994, the Knicks made it as far as Game 7 of the NBA Finals, when they couldn’t get the job done against the Houston Rockets on the road. 32 years later, Brunson will be looking to get the Knicks over the hump, and they’re getting closer to doing so as they look primed to take a 2-0 lead over the Cavs in the 2026 ECF.
