Jalen Brunson gets full Game of Thrones treatment after winning NBA Finals MVP

Jalen Brunson snatched the Most Valuable Player throne after dropping 45 points on the San Antonio Spurs. The New York Knicks star then received some Game of Thrones treatment after the NBA Finals.

The popular hit HBO series didn’t create a “Brace yourself, winter is coming” graphic for Brunson. Yet dropped this unique tweet that hailed him “breaker of double teams” and “king of New York.”

Even the House of Dragon account dove in with handing Brunson praise with a “prince that was promised” post.

Brunson swept the MVP votes in leading multiple comebacks against the Spurs. Game 5 witnessed Brunson and the Knicks erase a 16-point deficit inside Frost Bank Center. And Brunson carried the scoring load on a night the Knicks struggled with getting bench points, plus Karl-Anthony Towns getting in foul trouble.

But Brunson took the mantle of king of the series with multiple accolades. He scored past 30 points in four of the five finals games. Yet the 45 he produced hit Michael Jordan and Giannis Antetokounmpo territory: Delivering the most points in a series closeout game.

Brunson’s celebrity grew during the NBA postseason. Now he’s the toast of New York in ending the franchise’s 53-year championship drought. He wasn’t born yet when the Knicks last won the title in 1973. His father, assistant coach Rick Brunson, played on the 1999 Knicks team that fell 4-1 to the Spurs.

Brunson is sparking GOAT (greatest of all time) debates for the Knicks, especially from NBA champion/analyst Kendrick Perkins. But he’s a king in the eyes of the Game of Thrones universe.
