Jack Wilshere lands Champions League final job for Arsenal showdown

Jack Wilshere has landed a new job for the Champions League final between his former club Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.

The ex-Gunners midfielder will be in attendance in Budapest on Saturday as he works for TNT Sports on the showpiece match.

Wilshere revealed he would be going to the game on talkSPORT Drive with Andy Goldstein and Darren Bent, as he spoke whilst competing in the Maddison Invitational golf tournament.

And the Luton Town manager confirmed that he’d been handed a punditry role, saying: “I’m working [for broadcaster] TNT.”

He then went on to discuss how he sees the Champions League final panning out, looking at Paris Saint-Germain‘s threat.

“I’ve been looking at PSG and, mate, they kill teams,” Wilshere told talkSPORT. “They kill teams. But the only team they didn’t kill was Bayern… and Bayern had a go.

“Bayern wanted to take the ball. And I feel like you have to be brave against them. You have to want to take the ball.

“Because if you don’t, they’re going to take it… and they’re going to get their wingers in 1v1s, and that’s trouble.”

Host Goldstein went on to mention the damage going a goal down to PSG could do to Arsenal, saying: “That first goal is so important. If they get it, you’ve got to go after them, but the longer it stays 0-0…”

“I think that suits Arsenal,” the former Gunners star responded.

“Even if Arsenal go one goal up… Arsenal probably sit a little bit further back and you don’t want that.

“You need to be on the front foot.”

Brimming with confidence

Arsenal head into the Champions League final a week after lifting the Premier League title, having won the league a few days prior.

And the fact that the Gunners were able to play their last game of the season without any pressure will do no end of good for Mikel Arteta‘s side heading into the showpiece, according to Wilshere.

He said: “They didn’t have to go into that game [against Crystal Palace] at the weekend with all those emotions and mental capacity.

“So, listen, that doesn’t mean that they’re going to win, because I think PSG won it ages ago as well over there… but they’re used to that. They’re used to winning that.

“I don’t know. Maybe it can give Arsenal a boost. It’d definitely be bringing them more together as a team.

“When you win something together, it’s the best feeling ever.”
